mariedm Co., Ltd. Skin Research Center has published a study validating the use of a combined approach integrating a questionnaire-based assessment
with the Lactic Acid Stinging Test (LAST) to improve the identification of individuals with sensitive skin.

The study was published in the November/December 2025 issue of the Journal of Cosmetic Science (Vol. 76, No. 6, pp. 439–448).

Sensitive skin is one of the most common skin concerns worldwide. However, assessments based solely on subjective sensory symptoms—such as stinging,

burning, or itching—may not accurately identify individuals who exhibit objective skin irritation.

To address this limitation, the researchers evaluated the feasibility of combining a questionnaire with the Lactic Acid Stinging Test (LAST)

as a screening tool capable of improving the identification of sensitive skin while minimizing unnecessary irritation.

The findings suggest that the combined questionnaire + LAST approach is an effective method for identifying individuals with sensitive skin accompanied

    by objective skin irritation.

This strategy is expected to improve the accuracy of panel selection in the development of products targeting sensitive skin

and to support more consistent participant recruitment and reliable interpretation of clinical study outcomes.
