A clinical study conducted by mariedm Co., Ltd. Skin Research Center on [the effects of oral intake of Lactic Acid Bacterium Fermented Rice Germ Extract (LFRGE)
on human skin] was published online in the international peer-reviewed journal Food Science and Biotechnology on December 12, 2025, via the Springer Nature platform.
The study was designed as a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, involving 111 participants who consumed LFRGE for 12 weeks.
Researchers evaluated changes in multiple skin aging-related parameters following supplementation.
Compared with the placebo group, participants who consumed LFRGE showed significant improvements in wrinkle severity, skin elasticity, skin hydration, and dermal density.
In addition, transepidermal water loss (TEWL) was significantly reduced, indicating enhanced skin barrier function. No adverse events were reported during the study, confirming the safety and tolerability of LFRGE.
LFRGE contains gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and has previously been reported to regulate skin aging- and barrier-related biomarkers, including matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1), filaggrin,
and aquaporin-3 (AQP3). The findings of this clinical trial further support its beneficial effects on human skin health.
